Kara Key
About
Kara Key, JD, is a trial attorney and associate for the Kansas City law firm of Pingel Family Law, licensed in Missouri. Her practice focuses exclusively in the areas of family law and divorce law, including assisting families with high conflict divorce or custody cases, post-divorce modifications, paternity cases, adoption, parenting plan changes, child support, domestic violence, orders of protection, guardianship and grandparents’ rights, among many other unique aspects of family law cases. Ms. Key is passionate about compassionately guiding families through their difficult times and assisting them with finding unique and creative solutions to try to solve their problems and avoid litigation when possible. Of course, a good lawyer frequently avoids the necessity of proceeding with litigation by being willing to take the tough cases to trial, when called upon to do so and Ms. Key is an excellent advocate for clients both, in the court room and outside of the court room.
Ms. Key was born and raised in Texas and attended law school in Charleston, South Carolina. Ms. Key had the privilege of working at a boutique family law firm prior to, and throughout law school, for several years, where she received invaluable training and experience in assisting clients with complicated custody cases, and unique and difficult asset situations in finding successful resolutions. Ms. Key was able to witness, first hand, the difference that an experienced and dedicated advocate can have in a client’s life when they need expert guidance and advice and she works to passionately provide that to our clients at Pingel Family Law.
After completing law school, Ms. Key worked under a supervisory license in Texas for a year where she was instrumental in assisting numerous clients with all processes of family law litigation including case planning, preparing and filing documents, determining discovery and information that was required, taking and attending depositions, settlement conferences and mediations, and preparing for hearings and attending contested custody and dissolution trials. While Ms. Key is very grateful for the extensive experience she received following law school, we are grateful that she relocated to the Kansas City area in 2022, because she felt that the vision and passion of our firm matched her career and professional goals.
Ms. Key had her own memorable and life-changing experience with family law as a teenager when her step-father adopted her and her siblings. Ms. Key recalls that the family’s lawyer worked zealously to understand and meet their goals and objectives, creating their dream of a forever family. It was Ms. Key’s realization about how their family’s attorney, when she was a teenager, had a life-changing impact on their family, that sparked her love and passion for the law and serving our clients. Ms. Key recalls fondly the compassion and zeal with which the family’s attorney prepared their case and keeping in mind her personal experience, Ms. Key understands the importance of each case on each family our firm has the privilege to serve.
When she is not serving our clients, Ms. Key enjoys travelling, reading and spending time with family and friends. Ms. Key is the proud parent of two fur babies, Dolly and Gorman, who she enjoys taking care of on a daily basis.
