Qualified Domestic Relations Orders

Thank you for finding our firm. One of the areas that we focus on is preparing Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, or QDRO’s. This is a qualified order that enables a spouse to receive some portion of the other spouse’s retirement plan or pension in a divorce. The QDRO is entered as a part of a legal process in dividing married parties’ assets, typically through divorce or legal separation. The preparation and accurate completion of these Qualified Orders is particularly complex and in fact, many family law and divorce attorney specialists even turn to a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) attorney to prepare these very complex, legally technical documents. The process of getting the order prepared and entered can be a time-consuming process.  Pingel Family Law can simplify and complete this process with skill and efficiency to ensure that your interests (whether you are the plan owner or the alternate payee), are adequately protected. In fact, in many cases, both the plan owner and the recipient/beneficiary spouse jointly retain our office to get this document completed for the benefit of both parties. While it is always best to get the necessary QDRO(s) completed at or around the time of the divorce or other family law process being completed, on occasion, we have had the privilege of helping parties, or their family law attorneys, get the necessary QDRO’s prepared years after the divorce decree was entered. Typical accounts that require a QDRO for division may include: 401(k)’s, IRA’s, pensions, military pension, state/government retirement plans and other types of retirement savings plans.
